Dr. Yoakum received her BS from UCLA and her DVM from UC Davis. She completed an internship at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Yoakum and her husband, an optometrist, have a son, a daughter, and a cat named Violet. Her hobbies include wind surfing and tennis, and her professional interest, in addition to general medicine, is ophthalmology.
